Hubble Space Telescope

The Hubble Space Telescope is like having super-powered eyes floating in space! This incredible telescope has been orbiting Earth since 1990, taking the most amazing and detailed pictures of space that humans have ever seen. Hubble is about the size of a school bus and flies 340 miles above Earth, high enough to avoid the blurring effects of our atmosphere that make ground-based telescopes less clear. From its perfect position in space, Hubble can see galaxies billions of light-years away and capture details that would be impossible to see from Earth.

Hubble has completely changed how we understand the universe by making incredible discoveries and taking breathtakingly beautiful photos. It helped scientists figure out that the universe is expanding faster and faster, discovered that most galaxies have giant black holes at their centers, and found evidence of water on moons around other planets. Some of Hubble's most famous images include the colorful "Pillars of Creation" in the Eagle Nebula and stunning photos of distant galaxies that look like cosmic flowers and spirals.

The telescope is named after Edwin Hubble, the astronomer who discovered that the universe is expanding. Hubble the telescope has taken over 1.5 million pictures during its 30+ years in space, and many of these images are so beautiful they look like works of art! Scientists use special techniques to add colors to Hubble's images to highlight different gases and temperatures, creating those gorgeous rainbow nebulae and golden galaxies we love to see. Even though newer telescopes like the James Webb Space Telescope are now in space, Hubble continues to make new discoveries and take amazing pictures.
