Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain, is the world's most famous unfinished building that's been under construction for over 140 years! This incredible church looks like it was carved by giants, with tall spires that twist up toward the sky like giant stone ice cream cones. Architect Antoni Gaudí designed every detail to look like something from nature - the columns inside look like tree trunks, and the ceiling looks like a forest canopy.

Gaudí spent 43 years of his life working on this masterpiece until he died in 1926, but he knew he would never see it completed. He famously said, "My client is not in a hurry," referring to God! The church is planned to have 18 towers when finished - 12 for the apostles, 4 for the evangelists, 1 for Mary, and 1 giant central tower for Jesus that will make it the tallest church building in the world.

Construction is still happening today using Gaudí's original plans, drawings, and stone models. Modern technology like 3D printing and computer design helps builders understand Gaudí's complex geometric shapes. Inside, sunlight streams through amazing stained glass windows, creating rainbow patterns that dance across the stone columns. The church is expected to be finally completed around 2026 - exactly 100 years after Gaudí's death!
