Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal looks like a fairy tale palace made of pure white marble that seems to glow in the sunlight! This breathtaking monument in India was built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a tomb for his beloved wife Mumtaz, who died giving birth to their 14th child. It took 22 years and over 20,000 workers to create this masterpiece of love that changes color throughout the day.

The entire building is covered in precious white marble brought from 300 miles away by over 1,000 elephants! Skilled craftsmen decorated the walls with intricate flower patterns made from colorful gemstones like jade, crystal, and turquoise. The main dome is as tall as a 24-story building and is surrounded by four smaller domes and four tall towers called minarets.

At sunrise, the Taj Mahal appears pink, turns brilliant white at noon, and glows golden at sunset - it's like a giant jewel that changes with the light! The beautiful gardens have fountains and reflecting pools that create perfect mirror images of this incredible monument. Inside, the walls echo with whispers, creating mysterious sounds that add to its magical feeling.
