Edison's genius wasn't just inventing the light bulb - many people had tried that before. His breakthrough was creating an entire electrical system including power stations, electrical wires, and long-lasting bulbs that could work together. He tested over 3,000 different materials before finding that carbonized bamboo made the perfect filament!

Before electricity, people had to stop working when it got dark because candles gave weak, dangerous light that could start fires. Edison's electrical system solved this enormous problem and extended the day! Suddenly, people could work, read, and play safely after sunset.
