The Amazon Rainforest is like a giant green treasure chest covering most of northern South America! It's so huge that it's bigger than the entire United States and is home to more different animals and plants than anywhere else on Earth. This incredible forest is often called "the lungs of the Earth" because it makes so much oxygen for us to breathe.
The Amazing Amazon River
Right through the middle of this forest flows the mighty Amazon River - the longest river in the world! It's so wide in some places that you can't see the other side. The river is home to pink dolphins, giant otters, caimans (Amazon crocodiles), and thousands of different fish including the famous piranha.

During the rainy season, the river floods huge areas of forest, creating an underwater wonderland where fish swim between tree trunks! This flooding brings nutrients to the forest soil, helping plants grow bigger and stronger.
Incredible Amazon Animals
The Amazon is like nature's own zoo with the most amazing animals! Jaguars are the forest's spotted hunters with the strongest bite of any big cat. Howler monkeys make sounds so loud you can hear them 3 miles away! Sloths hang upside down and move so slowly that plants grow on their fur.
Poison dart frogs are tiny but wear bright warning colors to say "Don't eat me!" Toucans have beaks bigger than their whole bodies for reaching fruit high in trees. Giant river otters are as long as a grown-up and play together in family groups.
The Amazon Rainforest is Earth's greatest natural treasure - protecting it helps keep our whole planet healthy and ensures these amazing animals will be here for future kids to discover!
