¡Bienvenidos a Cuba! Welcome to the largest and most vibrant island in the Caribbean, where classic cars from the 1950s still cruise colorful streets and the rhythm of salsa music fills the air! Cuba is like stepping back in time while experiencing one of the richest cultures in the world. This amazing island nation has given us incredible music, world-class baseball players, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, all while maintaining a unique character that makes it unlike anywhere else on Earth!

Cuba gained its independence from Spain on May 20, 1902, after a long struggle for freedom that included help from the United States in the Spanish-American War. The name "Cuba" likely comes from the Taíno word "coabana," meaning "where fertile land is abundant." The Taíno people were the indigenous inhabitants of the island before Spanish colonization, and their influence can still be seen in Cuban culture today.

Amazing Wildlife

Cuba is home to many unique animals found nowhere else in the world! The beautiful Cuban trogon with its red, white, and blue feathers (matching the Cuban flag!) is the national bird. The island also has the world's smallest bird - the bee hummingbird that's only 2 inches long - plus Cuban crocodiles, jutías (tree rats), and colorful snails. The coral reefs surrounding Cuba are home to sea turtles, tropical fish, and even whale sharks!

Natural Resources

Cuba's tropical climate and fertile soil are perfect for growing world-famous products! The island produces some of the finest tobacco in the world, used to make premium cigars that are prized globally. Cuba also grows excellent coffee, sugar cane, and tropical fruits. The island has nickel deposits and beautiful coral reefs that attract tourists from around the world.
