Energy Types (Kinetic, Potential)
Explore kinetic energy, potential energy, and other forms of energy that power everything in our universe

Energy is everywhere around us! It's what makes cars move, helps plants grow, keeps us warm, and powers every single thing that happens in the universe. But energy comes in many different forms, and it's constantly changing from one type to another.
What Is Energy?
Energy is the ability to make things happen - to cause motion, create heat, produce light, or make changes occur. You can't see energy itself, but you can see what it does. Think of energy as the invisible "fuel" that powers everything in our world!
Kinetic Energy: Energy of Motion
Kinetic energy is the energy that moving objects have. The faster something moves, the more kinetic energy it has. A speeding race car has much more kinetic energy than a slowly rolling ball. Even you have kinetic energy when you're walking, running, or riding your bike!
Potential Energy: Stored Energy
Potential energy is stored energy that's waiting to be used. Like a spring that's been compressed or a book sitting on a high shelf, potential energy is ready to become kinetic energy. When you climb to the top of a slide, you gain potential energy that turns into kinetic energy as you slide down!
Other Types of Energy
Energy comes in many forms: chemical energy stored in food and batteries, electrical energy that powers your devices, thermal energy that keeps you warm, light energy from the sun, and sound energy that lets you hear music.
Energy is constantly flowing and changing forms all around us - it's the invisible force that makes our dynamic world possible!
